Lara Evangelista

Lara has been working for the New York City public schools for 15 years. Following her graduation from The New School, where she spent a year observing and student teaching at International High School at LaGuardia, Lara started working for The Brooklyn International High School as a Humanities teacher. Still in its early years of development, Lara worked collaboratively with other teachers to help develop BIHS’ project-based curriculum, internship program and portfolio assessment. At BIHS Lara served on the steering committee and SLT and was the advisor to the school’s student government.

Lara was a founding member of The Flushing International High School, along with founding Principal Joseph Luft. She served as a teacher and also helped to develop both its internship and College Now programs. She was named Assistant Principal in 2006, and served in that position until August 2011. Lara was appointed interim acting principal of Flushing International in September, 2011.

Lara graduated from Georgetown University in 1994 with a BS in Languages, and also holds a certificate in School Administration and Supervision from Hunter College.
