Bridgit Bye Dyster
Bridgit Bye Dyster was raised in Venezuela and came to the United States as a teenager. She finished high school in Connecticut and then studied and completed her BA in Romance Languages, Linguistics and History at Manhattanville College and the Universidad de Navarra in Spain. She completed her MA in TESOL at New York University. She has an advanced certificate in Administration from St. Rose’s College in Albany, NY.
Bridgit started teaching Spanish in Staten Island and then became an ESL teacher for the NYCBOE in the adult basic education division. She worked at two main sites for ABE/GED/ESL services, in Brooklyn and in upper Manhattan, working with refugees from Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia as well as with Latin American and Caribbean immigrants. She joined the high schools and became an ESL teacher in the ESL/bilingual program at Martin Luther King Jr. H.S. where she became the bilingual coordinator. She later moved to the BASIS superintendence where she became an ESL/bilingual staff development specialist for these Brooklyn and Staten Island High Schools.
Bridgit became one of the founding members of Manhattan International High School, taking on the Internship Program as well as teaching Humanities. She taught for eight years in Mexico in the Yucatan Peninsula working as an English teacher at an elementary through middle school and also at the Universidad de Quintana Roo as an English Professor. When she returned to the U.S. she began teaching English at the Bronx International High School in the Senior Institute. She then became the acting A.P. at Bronx International and opened Pan American International High School at Monroe in 2008.
