Claremont International High School

Claremont International High School opened in September 2012 on the Taft High School campus in the Bronx. Headed by Principal Elizabeth Demchak, this is the fifth International High School located in this borough, and is a pilot school serving both recently arrived and long-term English language learner students, with a core focus on the Arts.

Elizabeth Demchak


For the past ten years Elizabeth Demchak has been an advocate for the rights of immigrant youth both locally and internationally. After working abroad in Thailand and Eastern Europe, Elizabeth began her New York City teaching career at IS 318 in Brooklyn as an ESL and Social Studies teacher. From 2008-2011 during her tenure as the Education Services Officer for the International Rescue Committee, Elizabeth developed, managed and facilitated multiple out of school time programs for newly arrived refugee/asylee youth and their families in New York City schools.

Ms. Demchak earned a BA in International Affairs at Michigan State University, a MS in TESOL from Long Island University and a pending MA in International Affairs from New School University’s Graduate Program in International Affairs. As an Aspiring Principal in the New York City Leadership Academy, Ms. Demchak is completing an administrative residency at Brooklyn International High School.
