Carlos M. Beato

Principal

Carlos is a native New Yorker. Prior to moving to Prince George’s County, Carlos held various education positions in NYC public schools. He was a founding teacher at a school for spanish-speaking English language learners in the Bronx where he taught Native Language Arts. After seeing his first class graduate, he then moved on to become a College Counselor at the Business of Sports School in Manhattan. Carlos then decided to pursue a leadership position at New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science (AMS) in the Bronx as Assistant Principal. While there, he oversaw instruction for English language learners, special education students, Social Studies, Spanish and Physical Education departments. In his second year as Assistant Principal, Carlos was promoted to Director of School Operations to oversee the non-instructional operations of AMS including, but not limited to, supervision of nine operations employees, maintaining with local/state federal General Education and Special Education compliance, finance, family and community engagement, facilities management, testing coordination, college office development, implementation of discipline policies and human resources initiatives. Carlos lives by Nelson Mandela’s words and firmly believes that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” He loves being able to instill this very idea into students from underrepresented communities so that they too can become agents of change in their communities.Carlos received a full tuition scholarship through the Posse Foundation as a high school senior and pursued his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature with a minor in Sociology from Middlebury College. Upon graduating from Middlebury, Carlos gained entrance into the New York City Teaching Fellows program and obtained a Master of Arts in Spanish Literature with an education focus from CUNY at Lehman College in the Bronx. Carlos also holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from New York University. Carlos is currently a doctoral candidate at Howard University.
